John DeFeo, Mike Seidel, Valerie Fleming, Caitlyn Csaszar, and Ronn Franceschini are our Cardiac Superheroes

The third Thursday of each month, beginning at 3 p.m., Bacharach holds a free cardiac support group in the board room of the main campus in Pomona.

Open to cardiac rehab patients and their loved ones, the support group welcomes people of all ages who have somehow been affected by cardiovascular trauma.

“Heart attacks, open heart bypass, valve surgery, stents, peripheral vascular disease and cardiopulmonary conditions are all life-changing events, so it is critical for patients and their loved ones to have support and be informed about what to expect,” said Ronn Franceschini, M.Ed., Bacharach’s director of cardiac services. “Each month, we consistently have 10 to 15 people show up to the support group, but that number continues to grow.”

At each meeting, a guest speaker or staff member gives a half hour presentation about various cardiovascular health topics. Afterward, there is an open forum where patients can share their stories, ask questions and talk to each other about their own experiences.

“While the presentations are always fantastic, the second half hour is my favorite part,” said Franceschini. “It is amazing to watch the patients support each other and help each other cope with the emotions that often follow any cardiovascular trauma. I hope someday we can open the group to the entire community, so anyone affected by cardiac conditions can meet at Bacharach and learn how to heal.”

The next cardiac support group is scheduled to meet July 21. No preregistration is required. To learn more about the cardiac support group, please call 609-652-7000 ext. 2091 or email John DeFep, senior exercise specialist, at
