Juan Garcia, RN, BSN has volunteered or worked at Bacharach since 2014
Juan Garcia, RN, BSN, was once just a student at Atlantic Cape Community College, with a notion of finding a career in the health sciences.
He was in a biology program and signed up to volunteer at Bacharach where he could see physical, occupational, and speech therapists in action.
His first volunteer spot was in Inpatient Physical Therapy, and when that was about to end, physical therapist Kristin Garland encouraged him to keep volunteering, but in the Outpatient department, where he would see different kinds of patients.
Volunteering in the Outpatient department, he quickly caught the attention of the therapists there thanks to his hard work and cheerful willingness to help however he could. When a position as a Physical Therapy Aide opened, they encouraged him to apply, and he was hired. He held the position all through nursing school.
“Nursing was not my number one choice,” Juan admits. “But I had the chance to shadow Joy Jansson, a physician’s assistant at Bacharach. I remember asking her so many questions about everything on the floor, how medication orders were managed and so on. It all seemed so complicated. Joy said that her experience as a cardio-thoracic nurse was really important. Thanks to Joy, I realized that nursing is where I needed to start.”
Juan Earned a BSN at Stockton University
Juan transferred to Stockton University, where he completed his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.
Going to nursing school was particularly hard during the throes of the COVID pandemic. “Imagine learning how to take care of people without seeing people!” he said.
He passed his boards and applied for a nursing position at Bacharach. “I was familiar with the culture and the people at Bacharach and thought it was a great place to build a foundation and gain experience in my nursing career,” he said.
Recently, a grateful patient praised the care Juan and his fellow nurse provided, saying “I was treated phenomenally with all the care and nurses from this facility. The nursing care was unbelievable!”
We have a feeling there will be many more patient reviews like this one from patients under the care of Juan Garcia, RN, BSN.
