Lisa Lange, MPT, CBIS, is a Certified Brain Injury Specialist
March is Brain Injury Awareness Month, and Lisa Lange, MPT, CBIS, with 34 years of experience caring for people who have sustained brain injuries, is passionate about the roles of education and prevention.
“The focus of this year’s awareness campaign, #MoreThanMyBrainInjury, is to destigmatize the injury, empower the survivors and educate the public,” says Lisa.
According to the Brain Injury Association of America, the oldest advocacy group, 2.8 million people sustain a brain injury, annually.
Brain Injury is a Leading Cause of Death and Disability
“Brain injury is a leading cause of death and disability in this country,” says Lisa. “Research shows that one in sixty people in this country is living with a brain injury associated disability.”
“Brain injuries don’t discriminate. From a soccer mom to a business executive to a young athlete or an older adult, someone sustains a brain injury every 9 seconds.”
“These injuries can have wide ranging physical and psychological effects. At Bacharach, our multidisciplinary team of healthcare providers is here to provide exceptional care to those sustaining life changing injuries.
“Rehabilitation focuses not only on the physical aspects, but the behavioral and cognitive impact as well. Care plans are individualized and multidimensional to meet all the needs of our patients.”
“Prevention is the key! By raising awareness maybe we can prevent one more person from being wheeled into our gym and prevent one more family from the anguish of navigating the tumultuous sea of recovery after brain injury.”
