Jan Smejkal, PT, Clinical Director EHT Physical Therapy Center

You may know that Bacharach is a CARF and Joint Commission accredited medical rehabilitation hospital in Pomona, but did you know we also have 17 physical therapy centers offering a full-spectrum of rehabilitation services and programs throughout New Jersey?

Opened in 2000, the Egg Harbor Township Therapy Center was one of Bacharach’s first expansions into the community. This facility not only offers late hours on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, but it also has Saturday hours available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Located inside Tilton Fitness and Wellness, patients at the Egg Harbor Township facility have access to a recreational pool for supervised aquatic therapy and, with the direction of a physical therapist, access to the fitness equipment owned by Tilton.

“We have the standard array of physical therapy equipment – electrical stimulation, weights, column cables, etc. – but if a patient needs a machine that isn’t housed in our therapy center, a physical therapist is allowed to take the patient onto the gym floor to use their equipment,” says Jan Smejkal, PT, clinical director of physical therapy at Bacharach’s Egg Harbor Township campus. “When patients finish their prescribed physical therapy, they also have the option to join Tilton for a discount – incentivizing them to stay in shape and continue their home exercise program.”

With only three staff members, the size of the Egg Harbor Township facility provides a sense a family, allowing patients and therapists to really get to know each other and stressing “hands on” care.

“We are willing to bend over backward to our patients’ needs,” says Smejkal. “Our facility is located in a multi-cultural area – 25 percent of the population is nonnative born. Recognizing that a lot of our patients have English as a second language, don’t speak English at all or have different values for health care, we appreciate the diverse things our patients bring to the table – respecting their needs and providing them with the same high-level of care.”
